2003 - 2010 6.0L Genuine Ford Powerstroke OEM IPR (Injection Pressure Regulator) Valve PN: PU7Z9C968A

If your 6.0 Powerstroke is hard to start when hot, stalls at idle, or cranks but won’t fire, the injection pressure regulator valve is one of the first parts to check. The PU7Z9C968A IPR valve is the current Ford replacement for the original 5C3Z9C968CA, built to restore proper injection control pressure (ICP) and get your truck running right again.

What the IPR Valve Does

The 6.0L uses high-pressure engine oil, not fuel, to fire the injectors. The IPR valve sits on the high-pressure oil pump (HPOP) and is controlled by the PCM, which adjusts it constantly to hold the right oil pressure for injection. When the valve wears, sticks, or its screen clogs, the system can’t build or hold pressure. That’s when drivability problems start.

Common Signs of a Failing IPR Valve

  • Hard starting, especially when the engine is hot
  • Cranks but won’t start (low ICP at cranking)
  • Stalling at idle or when coming to a stop
  • Rough idle, surging, or hesitation
  • Loss of power under load
  • ICP readings that don’t track IPR duty cycle on a scan tool
  • ICP-related trouble codes

Features

  • Current Ford part number PU7Z9C968A, replacing 5C3Z9C968CA
  • Direct bolt-in replacement, no modifications required
  • Restores proper injection control pressure for reliable starts and smooth operation
  • Precision-machined valve body built for the heat and pressure of the 6.0L oil system
  • [Includes new O-rings / screen — confirm contents]

Fitment

  • 2003-2007 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, F-550 Super Duty 6.0L
  • 2003-2005 Ford Excursion 6.0L
  • 2004-2010 Ford E-Series (E-350, E-450) 6.0L
  • International VT365

Installation Tips

  • A dedicated 6.0 IPR socket makes removal and installation much easier and helps prevent damage to the valve.
  • Lube the new O-rings with clean engine oil before installing.
  • Clear any codes and verify ICP and IPR readings with a scan tool after install.
  • If ICP stays low with a new IPR, check for high-pressure oil leaks (standpipes, dummy plugs, STC fitting) before replacing more parts.
