This starter is a new true DENSO starter for the 7.3L Powerstroke (1994.5-03). It is not a chinese knockoff and will have no troubles cranking over your engine in the dead of winter with good batteries with the high output 4kw 5.38hp motor.
Comments: Starter works great on my 1997 f350 4x4 with a zf5 and did NOT require any modification other than bending the cable end. Starts as quickly as my 6.7.
Love this starter!

Comments: Read excellent reviews on multiple forums. Just installed it, very easy to do and it cranks over VERY well! :)
Also clears the cross member fine!

Comments: Some Install Info. for a 99 and 02
The starter fit fine on my 99.5 4x4 (1/8" to spare) and works great, on my wife's 2002 2WD I had to grind a bit of the frame with a die-grinder to get clearance.
Note: Make sure the length of the bolts is not too long!
I used (M10-1.5 X 40, 10.9 Flange Bolts), could use 8.8 bolts and they fit perfectly, you could also use some grade 5 or 8 washers but I went with new shorter bolts (bolts I had were from a Powermaster, starter not sure if they are longer then factory since I can't remember that far back...)
Turns over much faster!!!

Comments: This starter has to turn over the 7.3 about 1.5 times faster than the factory starter. Its a bit quieter too. It also weighs about 1.5 times more than the factory starter.
I would say the factory starter has monkey power and the Denso has gorilla power. It cranks hard!!!
