1994-1997 Automatic Transmissions

The automatic transmission found in the OBS generation is the E4OD. Ford started using this transmission back in 1989, and it largely stayed the same until 1999, when several changes were made. It was also now called the 4R100. These transmissions aren’t completely interchangeable but do share several parts. 

Most consider the E4OD a strong, reliable transmission for a stock truck. Once you start making more power, you need to improve your transmission so it can reliably get that power to the ground.
